Maybe the cries will show after they get to know each other and realize how different they are. So what happens then?
I'll tell you what doesn't happen (not regularly, anyway): they don't think that life is based on incompatibilities... They don't see the World's (ancient) couples that are incompatible (sometimes, even opposite). Let's take a look at the place where the Sea touches the Land (some call it "the seaside" :P)... That's the spot where you can see what a beatiful couple they make. Why do I say that? Just take a look at the figures! How many people go to the seaside every year? (...I think many...) Why do they go there? (...Most probably they go there in vacation, to relax, to enjoy, to have fun and so on...) I would say that the Sea and the Land make a pretty nice couple, considering the fact that people come around them to enjoy themselves... In the end it does turn out to be all about smiles!

In rest, "why do people think?". Well, I guess one just woke up one morning and while having his coffee realised it's more fun to continually complicate and simplify things around aka think than just to have an eternally quiet sip of coffee ;).
